Obtained geronimo from download page on Apache Geronimo web site (tar.gz file)
Obtained spring from download page on SpringSource web site (tar.gz file)
Installed git: sudo apt-get install git-core
Installed java: sudo apt-get install openjdk-6-jdk
- failed and hung AMI
  - had to change instance to small (from micro)
Added entry to /etc/hosts
 - 127.0.1.1   domU-12-31-39-0B-2A-28
